Description and Table of Contents

Description

This second edition of the original 2000 release has updated economic data on Asian countries and also discusses the impact on Asia of post-September 11 events up to and inclusive of the Second Gulf War (Operation Iraqi Freedom). Since the Second World War, many countries in South, Southeast and East Asia have achieved rapid economic growth, and transformed their economies from subsistence economies, to exporters of primary products, and more recently, to world centres of manufactured exports. This process has been accompanied by rising average incomes and standards of living. Important social and political changes have also taken place as a consequence of these developments. Asian Development presents an introductory account of the major trends in economic, social and political development of Asian countries during the second half of the twentieth century. READERSHIP: University lecturers/researchers, undergraduate students, academics, government policy makers and those interested in Economics & Policy Studies.
