Description
The "Asia Pacific Security Outlook" series monitors changing perceptions of national security environments, key defence issues and national contributions to regional and global security. In the 2003 edition of this annual publication, a multinational team of security experts reports on the implications for the Asia Pacific region of US president George W. Bush's new national security strategy, including his concerns about an "axis of evil"; weapons of mass destruction and the Iraq issue; the generational change of Chinese leaders and the post-Jiang Zemin era; an emerging multilateral security framework for the region, as exemplified by Japanese prime minister Koizumi Jun'ichiro's initative for an Asia Pacific Community; recession in the US; and deflation in Japan.
