A diverse collection of papers centering around themes of democracy, human rights, socio-economic development and regional co-operation in Southern Africa. Some examples of the subjects studies are: the duty of government to its citizens; democracy in Swaziland from the 1960s to the 1990s; impediments to simultaneous democratisation and respect for human rights in Africa; the threats to democracy in Malawi; SADC, globalisation and regional integration; the aid factor in civil and regional conflicts; the effects of liberalisation in Lesotho; socio-political aspects of foreign investment in South Africa; information technology and human resource sharing; and youth development through participation in the sub-Saharan region. The contributors are for the most part academics at universities in Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa and Swaziland.
