Description
Living in Britain presents findings from the General Household Survey; an inter-departmental multi-purpose continuous survey carried out by the Social Survey Division of the NS. It covers information on a wide range of topics from people living in private households in Great Britain. The survey started in 1971 and has been carried out continuously since then, except for breaks in 1997/8 (when the survey was reviewed) and 1999/2000 when the survey was re-developed. This report presents up-to-date information on a wide range of socio-demographic topics, providing a comprehensive picture of how we live in Britain today. It describes the social change we have experienced since the survey began in 1971. Information is included on population, characteristics, household and families, marriage and cohabitation, health and use of health service, housing and consumer durables, pensions and smoking and drinking - and for the first time - national identity.
