内容説明
This series continues the "splendid achievement" and "monumental task" of Wayne Miller's A Comprehensive Bibliography for the Study of American Minorities, which surveyed the literature through 1975. Minorities in America, a series of annual bibliographies, continues the project from that time. A new feature, summaries of nearly all the works listed, has been added.
Each volume contains about 7,500 entries for works dealing with the life and culture of 41 ethnic minorities ranging from Arab-Americans to Yugoslav-Americans, including indigenous peoples and immigrants. Within each group entries are arranged by subject areas -- history, sociology, economics, politics and law, education and language, religion, women, biography, literature and the arts -- with further subdivision when warranted.
The entries were compiled through a survey of 900 journals and a review of the publications of American university presses, commercial publishers, and the Government Printing Office; abstracts of theses were similarly reviewed.
Summaries of books and monographs were prepared by teams of professors, and abstracts of other materials were prepared by graduate students. All entries were cross-checked by other team members before being arranged by category.
The burgeoning literature on American ethnic minorities covers a wide spectrum of research interests, making the Annual Bibliographies a valuable resource to students and schilars in many disciplines, particularly the humanities (art, folklore, history, literature, music), the social and behavioral sciences, and the applied fields (education, business and public administration, social work). Minorities in America will also serve many users of public and school libraries: teachers and pupils, members of ethnic or local history groups, and all citizens seeking information about indigenous or immigrant minorities.
