内容説明

In Marisa Merz's drawings, "the stroke is maniacally repeated and insisted on, in such a way that the figure unconsciously emerges onto a surface racked by a vortex of signs; the hand seems to be guided by a rhythmic fortuitousness, a sort of graphic trance, and yet everything respects the compositional equilibrium of a remarkable energetic harmony" (Danilo Eccher). The major part of artist's drawings are black and white, "but colour is not important, its presence is measured in luminous expressions; it appears changing details, tones, timbres, blending signs with complexity; courteously lighting up the faces of fleeing images". The form of Marisa Merz works arises from the complex movement of her hand as it explores the space of the surface, probes proportions, measures distances through the repetition, interweaving and superimposition of marks in a movement that while revealing the figure, at once distils and hardens the time of its making. This art book was published for the exhibition held at the Marian Goodman Gallery in Paris from January 24th to March 9th 2002.
