内容説明

This is a classic work detailing the Ancient Indian art and architecture that contributed to the worship of elements from the mythology in India, between the first and fourth centuries A.D. The material for the work was based on the excavations from the sculpture of the Buddhist topes at Sanchi and Amravati. The book opens with introductory essays on the evidence of Tree and Serpent worship in the Western word and then in the eastern world. Then follow separate chapters on Sanchi and Amravati. The book is heavily illustrated with 131 illustrations and individually described. At the end of the book there are 9 appendices. The book was first published in 1873.
