In the 1950s, Max Stuart was convicted of rape and murder, based on a typed confession written in good English. However, Stuart could hardly speak or write English. As he sat on death row many questions were raised. The case became a watershed for changes in police procedures, racial attitudes and media involvement. Film tie-in.
