Medicine and public health in developing countries - particularly in hot climates - continue to confront familiar challenges. Changing cultures and economies throughout Asia are experiencing many forms of transition, perhaps none bigger than in food habits and dietary intake. In Asia the authorities are grappling with the rise of chronic disease linked to malnutrition. In this book the contribution of diet and nutrition to chronic disease is described from many countries in the continent in terms of patterns and growth in chronic illness. Measures to combat the causes of nutrition-related disease and effective ways to manage resources to deal with such diseases are discussed. Strategies are suggested for developing political and governmental awareness.
