内容説明
Good housing plays a significant role in the well-being of disabled children and their families. Nevertheless, practitioners can often find themselves in a difficult position: trying to balance individual needs with providing an equitable service to all, often within a context of severely constrained resources. By talking to both families with disabled children and practitioners, the focus of this report is on what can be achieved in the field. The report highlights services that address the housing needs of disabled children and their families in a positive way, and that have been commended by families themselves. It also highlights the key features of services that families and children find most helpful, and provides a checklist against which service providers can assess the effectiveness of their services. Key themes include: advice, information and advocacy; provision of home adaptations and re-housing; strategic issues, multiagency working and raising awareness.
"Housing and disabled children" should be a valuable resource for the diverse range of practitioners who work with disabled children and their families, as well as an opportunity for potential and current service users to find out more about different types of service provision across the UK.
