Description
This sequel to the successful Pierre Bourdieu (4 Vols) edited by Derek Robbins in 2000. Bourdieu died in 2002 and the new set extends the critical appreciation of his achievement and considers responses to his work that have occurred since his death. The four volumes are divided into seven sections: Globalization; Interviews; Methodology and Philosophy of Social Science; Concepts Revisited; Some examples of the socio-political engagement of the intellectual; Critiques; Reviews and Obituaries.
The sheer scale of Bourdieu's achievements is slowly being recognized. His work in developing relational sociology, criticizing distributive injustice and exposing how power operates amounts to one of the first-rank of major, durable contributions in post-war Sociology.
Robbins is one of the best informed and stimulating critical interpreters of Bourdieu's thought. He has a range of knowledge to enable illuminating connections to be made with philosophy, sociology, culture and politics. This is the perfect complement to Pierre Bourdieu (2000) and enables readers to revitalize their understanding of this prominent social thinker.
Derek Robbins is Professor of International Social Theory, University of East London
