The book is a compendium of diverse case studies in the field of environmental economics in India. It outlines the social scientific tools and methodology involved in the management of natural resources of a developing economy such as India. The author avers that industrialization and increasing rates of growth have brought with them some social costs, such as increasing demands on the natural and environmental resources of the country. Management of the environment is, therefore, of prime importance to maintain the ecological balance of the economy. The author contends that the approach towards such issues should segue contemporary scientific and technological tools with socio-economic perspectives. The case studies enunciated in the volume are fairly exhaustive, dealing with a host of issues besides air and water pollution. They also discuss, threadbare, the applicability and usefulness of the various statistical tools commonly used in environmental economics. The book is a use ful reference note for practising environmental economists, policy-makers, managers of environment-related projects as well as researchers.
