内容説明

Felix Jacoby's "Die Fragmente der griechischen Historiker" (FGrHist) or short the 'Jacoby' was first published between the 1920's and late 1950's. The Jacoby is a standard collection of and commentary on the fragments of 856 Greek historians whose works have survived only in fragmentary form. The Jacoby contains over 12,000 fragments from sources going up to the Byzantine period and, in addition to Greek, also from sources in other languages like Armenian, Syriac, and Arabic. The Jacoby on CD-ROM presents the collection as completed by Jacoby himself in 1958, consisting of three parts originally covering 15 volumes in print: I (Genealogy and Mythography), II (Universal and Contemporary History; Chronography), and III (Ethnography and Horography). The Jacoby on CD-ROM makes this unique collection available in a much-needed, easy to use format for the first time. All fragments and commentaries are fully searchable, and extensive indexes and links facilitate access to this vast work. Students and specialists will greatly benefit from being able to search this fundamental work of classical scholarship from the desktop. Long an essential reference tool for classicists and ancient historians in its print form, the Jacoby on CD-ROM has the ability to open up new avenues of research by students and scholars.
