In the past five years major advances have been achievedintheanalysisofearlyBcelldevelopment,AIDdependentclass switchrecombinationaswellassomatichypermutationandBlimp-1re- latedplasmacelldifferentiation. Manyofthesefindingsandtheirimpli- tionsarecoveredinthisvolume. Twoemergentareasofresearchthatare includedinthecontributionsfocusonthepre-BCRandIkaros-familyp- teins. Thepre-BCRisanunusualmoleculardevicethatisusedtoexecute acriticaldevelopmentalcheckpointintheBlineage.
