内容説明

This book outlines the history of Saxon and Norman London, beginning with the ruined Roman city of Londinium and culminating at the beginning of the 13th century. This is a history that incorporates Anglo-Saxon settlers, the Christian missionaries, the raiding Vikings and Danes and the Normans. Some of the most important individuals of the time are profiled, such as Alfred the Great, Edward the Confessor and William the Conqueror, while the developments in trade and industry which laid the foundations for London's prosperity - coinage, merchants, crafts and the port - are described. The origins of some of the city's most famous buildings - St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Old London Bridge and the Tower of London - are shown.
