Description
Knowledge society suggests the possibility of institutions and organizations that enable people and information to develop without limits, and that open opportunities for all kinds of knowledge to be mass-produced and mass-utilized throughout the society as a whole. The report notes the understanding of knowledge society often remains erroneous of shallow. At the same time deep transformative currents related to knowledge and its production and dissemination in society promise to change the world, as we know it. Understanding this pattern of change will impact on our policy choices with long-term consequences. Responsible policy choices are needed for a future where knowledge is secured to support high levels of quality and safety of life for all people everywhere. This report proposes an index of knowledge societies and makes recommendations for governments, political and economic elites, business, civil society, news media and academic communities.
