内容説明
An examination of the current application of the Treaty of Waitangi - what it means for us today. This book covers the history of the Treaty, i.e. events leading up to the signing, the signing, the different versions etc; but it also brings the implications of the Treaty up to date. Previous books go up to 1975 but this book looks at legal and political details since that time. It also looks at the wider issues, e.g. different attitudes between Pakeha and Maori, the foreshore and seabed issue. In addition there is practical information on topics like: * What does an understanding of the principles mean? * What are my obligations as a citizen of NZ? * Some examples of legislation requiring obligations. Including case studies, examples and commentary, this book is essential reading for every New Zealander, and especially for anyone working in government or local government; anyone applying for resource management consents; and any public body required to honour the principles of the Treaty, e.g. schools, kindergartens etc. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Marcia Stenson is the author of Illustrated History of New Zealand .She has been a secondary school History teacher and a Deputy-Principal, and she has written a number of books including the classic The Story of New Zealand .
