Description
Victor Jacquemont was born in 1801 in Paris. From an early age, he showed a great inclination towards the natural sciences; this made him travel to India. The contents of this book are the letters that he wrote to his friends and family back home and are full of vivid and keen descriptions of all that he saw and experienced while on his travels. Victor Jacquemont traveled for 4 years - 1828-1831. He started in Calcutta, and from there he made his way to Delhi thence to Shimla and further on to the border with Tibet in Kinnaur; he then returned to Shimla. He traveled back to Delhi and made his way to Lahore via Ludhiana; from Lahore he made his way to Srinagar, Stopping on various camps on the way. From there he made his way back is Delhi via Jammu and other cities in Punjab like Ambala, Sabhato. Back in Delhi he then went to Alwar, Ferozpur (in Rajasthan) and to other cities like Ujjain and Indore in the Malwa area. Wrapping up his journey, he proceeded to Bombay via Ellora and Pune. There is a map that accompanies the map illustrating his route. This book is a reprint of the 1834 edition.
