内容説明

Bookstores are filled with aptly described "dream books" that present beautiful homes by top architects. Readers are encouraged to fantasize about owning and living in such houses. Unfortunately, fantasize is all they can do since most of these houses are well beyond the reach of most consumers. Great Houses on a Budget promises to provide a reality check by presenting beautifully designed houses by some of the same architects with one exception. The houses in this book were designed and built for clients with high design and construction standards but with modest budgets. Depending on the region of the country, the houses presented as case studies in this book will all have been constructed on a per-foot basis ranging from under USD100 to approximately USD200. The square-footage cost for each house will be given and the construction and design techniques as well as the building materials used that allowed for the lower cost will be described so that readers can incorporate this information into the planning of their own houses. Each case study will feature professional interior and exterior photography as well as floor plans, sections, elevations and site plans. Great Houses on a Budget will feature 15 houses presented as mult-page case studies that show plans, drawings, and discss the architect's design techniques that allow for inexpensive construction. Houses in California, North Carolina, Connecticut, Virginia, Kentucky, and Oregon will be presented among others and the work of Scott Guyon, Stephen Erlich, Sands Architects, Robert Gurney, and others
