"Between the wars" - the term signals that the years of the Weimar Republic as the "crisis years of classical modernism" and the thirties are linked in a more dense historical continuity than long assumed. Wolfgang Hardtwig's "Political Cultural History" systematizes this question. His topics are the politicization of space and time, the different form and relevance of war experience, change and the political instrumentalization of body experience, the susceptibility of science to holistic concepts and finally the importance of new visual advertising strategies in consumer society. The book combines reflections on the theory of political cultural history with case studies saturated with material and thus provides new answers to the basic question of German history in the 20th century: How was it possible for National Socialism to gain a foothold in German society?
