Description and Table of Contents

Description

Richard Deacon was born in Bangor, Wales in 1949. He was one of a generation of British sculptors who emerged in the early 1980s and went on to achieve national and international acclaim. He won the Turner Prize in 1987. He has shown extensively in Europe, USA, South America and Japan and is represented in major public collections worldwide. His works, both on a domestic and monumental scale use simple organic shapes to explore the ideas of language and the senses. Leading essayist, historian and critic Marina Warner, a long-time admirer of Deacon, brings her unique sensibility, both literary and visual to bear on Deacon's work. The book accompanies an exhibition at Tate St Ives. It includes an installation of wooden forms created for the curved gallery, and a group of new ceramics.
