Description

The book takes sex and gender as its major organizing theme, but, significantly, looks at these things in a global, transnational perspective. While most sex and gender books are "diverse" in terms of race, class and sexuality, they are for the most part very U.S.-centered. This book, however, will have 50+ readings, and in this new edition will address some concerns of previous users in the following ways. First, the popular culture section of the book will be strengthened, as studying gender through mass media is increasingly popular and effective with undergraduates. Second, additional attention will be given to the experiences of Muslim women throughout the book. Finally, there will be more on war and militarization.
