Description and Table of Contents

Description

This work provides a general history of the development of the New Hampshire state constitution, beginning with the nation's first written state constitution in 1776. The 1776 constitution was replaced by the constitution of 1784, which, even after 144 amendments in over 200 years, still retains the same basic form of government and many of the articles in the Bill of Rights. This book supplies the full text of each article of the constitution and an analysis of each article's development. Each analysis includes a description of amendments to the text and references to cases decided by the New Hampshire Supreme Court. This book offers a historical overview of the development and application of the New Hampshire Constitution. It contains a general constitutional history and an article-by-article commentary, including discussion of important cases. Also included are a bibliographical essay, table of cases, tables relating to constitutional conventions and amendments, and a general index.
