Description

Gheeraert's portrait of Elizabeth I, painted in c.1592 and owned by the National Portrait Gallery, London, is one of the most famous paintings of the 'Virgin Queen'. This is the first book to address the life and work of this innovative artist who painted some of the most important figures of his age, defining the public image of the monarchy under Elizabeth I and James I.
