Summary: Illustrate how ideas concerning magnetism can be applied to the igneous rocks on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Lava flow features and paleo-magnestim reveals that magmatism was related to the opening of the Atlantic. What kind of magmas are involved, and Why? This video gives a scenic and map-based overview of plateau basalts, gabbro (Cuillin), granite (Red Hills) and ignimbrites. The remainder of the video uses a geochemical approach to explain origins and relationships between these magmas (linked to lab anlaysis) and, finally, Skye magmas are compared with MORB of the Atlantic
