Description
Hugo of Macon wrote his Latin chivalric poem in the middle of the 13th century. It is edited here for the first time together with a medieval commentary. In the gesta militum allegorical didactic traditions are linked with novella-like elements of vernacular poetry. At the same time classical authors and medieval masters (Alan, Mathew or Vendome) have set their stamp upon Hugo's language.
