内容説明

The collections of the internationally renowned Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen owe their character to the tastes of a father and son: Carl and Helge Jacobsen. From 1878, Carl Jacobsen, son of the founder of Carlsberg, the great Danish brewing company, bought works by Danish Golden Age artists and by French painters and sculptors, including Rodin and Carpeaux, and many exceptional Greek, Roman and Etruscan sculptures. After Carl's death in 1914, his son Helge extended the scope of the collection by including Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, notably some fine canvases and ceramics by Paul Gauguin. Published to coincide with an exhibition of the most outstanding works in this collection, this catalogue illustrates some 200 items, the cream of the Glyptotek's holdings, and details the history of each piece.
