内容説明

Over the past twenty years, New Zealand has been transformed from a welfare state into a free market economy, but is now slowly returning to its old socialist patterns under the present Labour government. Bringing together leading authorities from across the social sciences and professions, this book puts current economic development policies and strategies into an historical perspective and identifies the key factors that have been influential in shaping the country's innovative development policies and potential. It therefore provides an insightful and comprehensive overview of the economic development process in New Zealand. The topics discussed include: population change and how this relates to economic growth; recent Central and Local Government policies and programmes, such as the New Zealand Regional Partnership Program; Maori economic development; sustainability; entrepreneurship; public/private partnerships; and industry clusters. The book concludes with a critical discussion of the range of policies and programmes and puts forward suggestions for best-case practice for the future.
