Description
An informative guidebook describing fifty-five outstanding natural places throughout Pennsylvania, featuring the virgin forests, spectacular waterfalls, rare botanical localities, and unusual geological formations that make the Keystone State a favorite locale for outdoor enthusiasts. Most of the areas are easily accessible from the major population centers of the state.
The book is divided into three sections-Eastern, Central, and Western Pennsylvania-and covers unique natural features in such places as state parks, state forest natural areas, private nature sanctuaries county parks, environmental education centers, a National Wildlife Refuge and a National Forest. Each chapter discusses the flora and fauna of the place as well as what makes it special. Included are precise directions on how to reach each area from the neatest city, a description of the best trails to follow, telephone numbers, addresses, hours, availability of group tours, and admission charges (if any).
Aimed at a broad audience of naturalists, families, and groups of all kinds, this book will also interest birdwatchers, hikers, campers, fishermen, and wildflower and plant enthusiasts. In fact, anyone who is interested in outdoor Pennsylvania will be able to use this book to discover and enjoy the natural beauty of the Keystone State.
