Description

"Greenhouse Gases and Animal Agriculture: An Update" assembles contributions presented at the 2nd International Conference on Greenhouse Gases and Animal Agriculture, held at the ETH Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland from 20-24 September 2005. One important aspect of this conference was to give an overview of the present state-of-the-art for the most important fields related to greenhouse gases in animal agriculture. Besides mitigation strategies for methane formation in rumen, hindgut and manure, the opportunities for utilizing methane, applying different storage techniques and manipulating turnover in soil were addressed. The various disciplines that were represented at the conference provided the basis for efficient interdisciplinary discussion. Researchers specialised in animal agriculture and environmental conservation from over 30 countries participated and over 160 oral and poster contributions were presented. "Greenhouse Gases and Animal Agriculture: An Update" comprises a fair selection of these presentations, addressing recent findings and cognitions on how greenhouse gas emissions from animal agriculture can be reduced in the future to improve the health of every life and of the environment.
