Description
This approach draws on theories of dialogue, reader-response and free interpretation. It includes an analysis of the patterns of humour linking Rabelais with Guillaume Coquillart, readings from "Pantagruel", "Gargantua", "Tiers livre" and "Quart livre", a re-examination of Bakhtin's reading of Rabelais, and a chapter on Rabelais' aesthetics of variety and the unauthenticated "Cinquieme livre".
