The National Curriculum represents one of the most important changes in schooling this century. Although this guide to the National Curriculum has been written specifically for parents, it may also be a useful reference for educators and school governors. The author introduces and explains the structure and technology of the new system, and interprets the reforms in terms of their impact in the classroom. The book offers detailed accounts of the "core foundation" subjects - English, maths and science - and of recent developments in such other "foundation" subjects as information technology. Other topics discussed are the new approach to assessment and testing, parents' rights under National Curriculum legislation, the role of governors in relation to the National Curriculum and the controversies surrounding the introduction of new reforms.
