Description and Table of Contents
Description
Nationally, about 20 per cent of the school population have special educational needs at some time in their schooling. This report is concerned with the response of maintained ordinary and special schools to the mandatory National Curriculum requirements over the school year 1991-92. Across all the schools inspected, 28 per cent of the lessons seen were judged to be good or very good, but almost half the pupils in special schools were still not receiving a satisfactorily broad and balanced curriculum which complied with National Curriculum requirements. Teachers in all types of school were highly committed to inservice education and training on the National Curriculum.
