内容説明

The Imperial War Museum are holding an exhibition of 'Animals in War' in July. This book is a much loved tribute to the bravery of animals in war, constantly reprinted. Fully illustrated, this is a uniquely fascinating history of the military conflicts British forces have been involved in over the last 150 years, bringing to light hitherto unknown heroes of those conflicts (who were commemorated by the Animals in War memorial, Marble Arch, last year). It includes specialist mailings and reviews. It presents an account of the many courageous animals who went beyond the bounds of training and duty to display selfless acts of devotion in war. These animals have been the silent heroes of many wars over the last 150 years, from the Afghan Wars of 1879 to Rob, Britain's most decorated animal hero, who served with the SAS during World War Two. With new research and eye witness accounts, Evelyn le Chene places each animal's heroism in the context of the battle or campaign in which they served, including maps and a wealth of archive photographs (many published for the first time) to evoke the valiant deeds of the brave animals to have served their country.
