Description
A Joint Study of the International Labor Office and the Secretariat of the World Trade Organization This study addresses an issue that is of concern to both the International Labor Office and the World Trade Organization: the relationship between trade and employment. Based on an overview of the existing academic literature, this volume provides an impartial view of what can be said, and with what degree of confidence, on the relationship between trade and employment. This is often a contentious issue of public debate. The book focuses on the connections between trade policies and labor and social policies. It will be of interest to all those who are involved in this debate: policymakers, academics, economists, workers and employers, and trade and union specialists. Chapters include - Trade Flows and Employment: The Current Context - Trade and Employment: Theory and Evidence - Trade and Inequality - The Role of Policymakers - Conclusions
