Description
This title includes text by Frances Follin, Claus Pias, and, Martina Weinhart. Op Art and Kinetics emerged in the early 1960s as art movements with a strong interest in objective and scientific experiments. Fascinated by the physical laws of light and optics, a whole generation of artists dedicated themselves to the exploration of visual phenomena and the principles of perception. Artists such as Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, Francois Morellet, Julio Le Parc and Gianni Colombo examined the possibilities of optical deception in their artworks. Their large-format paintings, objects, and environments do not simply set the viewer's eye in motion, they also cause the viewer to be immersed in colour, plunge them into the infinite in mirrors, or create poetic games with light. This book is published to accompany the exhibition of the same name at Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, 17 February - 20 May 2007.
