A state-of-the-art report on the current situation in research in geothermal energy. The contributors are all distinguished international figures, who review the progress made in all areas of geothermal energy over the last decade. To form this volume they have rewritten and updated the papers they contributed to the Special Issue of the International Journal of Energy Research which was published in 1985. The range of topics covered is wide, from the formation of geothermal resources and their physical and thermodynamic properties, through geophysics and geochemistry to the practicalities of engineering geothermal resources. Each topic is covered in some detail and all the contributors have practical experience of the field.
