"The 'law of wills' is contained in the 'Indian Succession Act, 1925'. It however, does not apply to Muslims. Wills executed by Muslims are governed by rules of Muslim Law. Hindu law did not initially recognise wills. Sanskrit has no word for 'will.' But the advent of British in India seems to have prompted Hindus, particularly in the Presidency towns of Bombay and Calcutta and in the Bengal Presidency to make wills"--Introd.
