内容説明

This volume presents contributions from 12 representatives of the three monotheistic world religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam - which reveal the fundamental bases of their faith. The essence of the ecumenical encounter lies not on the theological level, but in a common understanding of the central experience of faith and on the question of the outlook for monotheism in the present historical situation. The principal considerations in this area of study are - the transcendental quality of God as revealed in the Bible and in the Koran, the re-discovery of the prophetic element in the monotheistic religions and various questions of practical faith. This book discusses the responsibility of monotheism in the world, for which the words of Martin Buber offer a text, "It is not the role of the religions of the world to understand each other's dogma...the religions of the world should plan for and begin with the saving of man before his downfall. For that is the task which is entrusted to them."
