内容説明

The introduction of high-speed trains and other modern equipment for rail transport suggests that there are still exciting possibilities for railway services. Such developments must of course be based on existing knowledge, and in this book, Dr. Andrews has summarised the basic technical information available, ranging from the work of railway scientists at the turn of the century to investigations associated with present day developments in high-speed trains. Following a brief historical introduction, each aspect of the field is examined in relation to the basic physical characteristics concerned, and methods of measurement of the more important factors are recommended. The subjects so treated include: train resistance, adhesion, motors, control, diesel traction, battery traction, testing of rolling stock, braking, overhead equipment, mechanical parts including axle drives, vertical and horizontal stability, auxiliary functions, calculation of train performance. Throughout the book both electrical and mechanical matters are considered together and related whenever possible.
