内容説明
This illustrated work provides a concise introduction to the perennially fascinating subject of ancient Egyptian attitudes to death and the dead. Drawing on the British Museum's world-famous collection of mummies and funerary equipment, the author looks at embalming, coffins and sarcophagi, shabti figures, magic and ritual, amulets and papyri, as well as the mummification of sacred animals. he also investigates the evidence left by the actual physical remains of the ancient Egyptians, which can reveal interesting details about their environment, nutrition, life expectancy and general health and diseases. Much new information is included, based on a range of sophisticated scientific applications, such as the use of non-invasive imaging techniques to look inside the wrappings of a mummy.
