Description

"Enterprising Women" examines the careers of a diverse group of managerially inclined women, from experienced managers to entrepreneurs, both young and old. Since the 1950s, Australian women have broken through traditional career barriers and are now well established at all levels in an ever-widening range of professions. The career histories discussed in this book explore women's experiences in both establishing a business and negotiating a career-path up the organizational ladder, as well as the processes involved in being accepted as a woman boss. These experiences are illustrated by profiles of 54 women, comprising 25 corporate managers, 25 entrepreneurs and small-business owners, three women working in the area of social reform, and a rising politician. Their efforts to overcome a variety of obstacles and to succeed within the work environments discussed in this book make it an essential guide for any career woman wishing to learn about career strategies and tactics. Dr Leonie Still, author of ***What every woman needs to know about winning the corporate battle and becoming a top woman manager, is the first woman to be appointed dean of a school/faculty of commerce/business in Australia. She is also widely experienced in both self-employment and corporate management. This book is intended for students and researchers in gender studies, human resource management and industrial relations.
