Description and Table of Contents
Description
Examining the imaginative and compelling way in which fashion has permeated 21st century culture, this book considers the relationship between fashion on the catwalk and architecture, interiors and products. Many fashion designers extend their aesthetic into interiors and products for the home as a natural progression from clothing the body. The home is now subject to the same directional trends as fashion, in part because so many designers are extending their practice to include interiors, as well as products and accessories. The fusion between fashion and interiors has never been more relevant. The proliferation of ideas, the speed of manufacture, and an increasingly visually literate consumer, have all resulted in interiors being subject to the same desire for innovation, change and fashionability as fashion. This investigation of the hectic dissemination of trends takes the reader on an eclectic, adventurous excursion into living with fashion.
Table of Contents
- INTRODUCTION
- CHAPTER ONE - INSPIRATION
- Following the design process in fashion and interiors - from the initial implementation of colour ranges to fabric choices, seasonal adjustments and range building - this chapter attempts to answer the question, 'does fashion influence interiors, or do interiors influence fashion?'
- CHAPTER TWO - THE FASHIONABILITY OF TASTE
- This chapter discusses the concept of taste in fashion and interiors, explores how the concept of taste is constructed and examines the role of the decorator (or interior designer) and fashion stylist
- CHAPTER THREE - THREADS
- Many textile designs that are originally conceived for fashion also travel between products as diverse as sunglasses, luggage, wallpaper and chairs. This chapter explores how printed, knitted, woven and embroidered textiles cross the boundaries of conventional usage and are appropriated for both interiors and fashion.
- CHAPTER FOUR - LIAISONS
- This chapter investigates designers who have been commissioned by manufacturing companies to enhance their design profile.
- CHAPTER FIVE - HOUSESTYLE
- This chapter looks at how designers increasingly offer a total look, rooted in a visible and established brand identity where fashion and interiors are fused into a signature style. Fashion labels now recognize that customers require more than clothes from a brand, that there is a market for home interiors that reflect the label's fashion aesthetic.
