Understanding Family Law will examine the key concepts of rights, responsibilities, welfare, protection, consent and parentage. It will also situate contemporary practices within legal structures such as ADR and the role of social work/services, paediatrics and the police. Emphasis will be placed on contemporary issues such as gay marriage (also transsexuals), children's rights, violence and abuse, equality issues (divorce, pensions) father's concerns (access etc), the elderly, freedom and consent (arranged marriages) and the impact on medically assisted reproduction (inc. sex selection and PGD).
