内容説明

This monograph traces the 40-year evolution of the vision and technique of a major contemporary sculptor whose work is characterized by dynamic balance and compositional rigor. Barrett's oeuvre achieves a remarkable synthesis of the tactile process of free modelling, the expressive gesture and the craft of welding sheets of bronze. This text explores many of Barrett's themes, such as the arch, the bridge, the standing human figure and the calligraphic gesture, all of which reappear with ever-new meanings throughout the artist's career. It argues that Barrett's recent work communicates pure movement, inspired by music and dance. This text and reproductions also explores the kinship of Barrett's paintings and drawings to his three-dimensional work.
