Work consists of a section culled from Corpus Christi College (University of Cambridge) Manuscript 139, known as the Historia regum, that the author has identified as the work of Byrhtferth of Ramsey. The editor/translator has selected the title Northumbrian chronicle to refer to this portion of the manuscript. The Northumbrian chronicle is identified as item 7, folios 50v-75r, or item 7 sections 1 to 5, from the larger item 7 folios 50v-129r of Manuscript 139
