内容説明

A compass is an invaluable aid in map reading and finding our way through unknown landscapes. But what can help us to find our way through the world that confronts us at the start of the twenty-first century? Genevieve Jacques, out of her commitment and experience, suggests that human rights is the compass to give us the right direction. We ought to refuse to tolerate the poverty, inequality and insecurity which is the lot of so many of the world's population. The struggle for social justice and human rights is the same -- to bring freedom from want and fear and to respect human dignity. Jacques argues that we need to give renewed attention to economic, social and cultural rights. Human rights should be placed at the heart of economic policies and be legally enforced. Governments and international bodies have to be held accountable and the prevailing culture of impunity should be resisted.
