Description
In response to an advertisement placed in newspapers in 3 cities - London, LA and Tel Aviv -, more than 150 women who would be 50 in 2002 came to be photographed by Carolina Benshemesh. They are part of a generation of which could be seen as the first in which women have had a wider access to certain lifestyles, expectations, cultural, occupational and financial freedoms, and the health and life expectancy to enjoy them. At 50 the 100 or so women who finally appear in this book touch on their independence, motherhood, marriage, divorce, daughterhood, tragedy, hope, career, health and body image and more. They may be happy or sad, plain or beautiful, or for that matter plain sexy, but most of all they are very real.
