Description
In this volume, Kozlowski and Aurenche have accumulated a wealth of data on the Neolithic cultures of the Near East which is used to investigate the presence and location of bounded territories before and after the year 8000 cal BC. The distribution of more than 165 different elements (including pottery, lithics, stone, bone and terracotta objects, figurines, engraved and decorated objects) are plotted on maps (which take up two thirds of the volume) and, combined with geographical, topographical and hydrological data, are used to suggest where territories and territorial divisions between different cultures might have lain. Described as a series of hypotheses that require verification ad explanation, this study brings together much evidence for future research.
