This volume provides an opportunity for individuals to gain access to an Old Icelandic saga. It was written down towards the end of theperiod of saga writing (c. AD 1400) and is found only in one medival vellum manuscript. While the introduction includes the possibility of a "Bear's son folk-tale" analogue, it also reveals itself as a narrative deriving from a set of complex forces at work in the late Middle Ages.
